Alcopop @ Babestation

“I can’t play with the other girls” the cellulite-ridden ‘honey’ from BabeStation TV drawled in her thick northern accent, as another successful Alcopop! Business meeting came to an end.

“No – you don’t understand” I explained, “Play paper, scissors stone” with them…

“You want me to open my legs?”

This call was going nowhere…. Alcopop hung up.

For anyone that doesn’t know, over the last (and inaugural) year of Alcopop Records, we have been running a singles club, featuring limited edition (to 500), handmade 3” CDs, over 6 glorious releases – with the likes of Data.Select.Party, 4 or 5 Magicians, Midget and so many more all featuring. They look awesome, but as you can imagine this has required many, many dedicated hours cutting, folding, sticking, stamping, numbering and sealing sleeves – usually with many dodgy cocktails and brilliant/rubbish TV.

These shows usually involve MTV2, UK Gold or football violence – but last night we not only discovered Babestation, a frankly woeful, yet compelling channel where Casio keyboard demo tunes drivel on whilst fat girls thrust about, but also a brilliant, but tenuous, soft-porn flick with a pair of boozy narrators and a protagonist who kept yelling “I’m driving as fast as I can”. I forget the name of it, but you should really check it out. J Sleevecrafting production levels remained high.

In other Alcopop news, things are all going nicely. We’ve added a new, yet to be unveiled band to our rosta, are shortly to be detailing one of our other artists next single (on a format that may appeal) – have everything in motion for what’s will be the first (and best) tape compilation release of 2008, and look out for Sam Isaac all over the BBC, with him having appeared on Radio 1, 2 and 6 over the past couple of weeks – (and it’s rumoured, Jo Whiley tomorrow).
