Like Sandra Bullock and explosions? Yup!
So do I – that’s why this little cracker from the good boys at Coach is well worth a little watch. Look out for Sandra’s expression when Luke hollers “why not?” – It speaks volumes. It speaks love. It speaks “Hooch by the lake with a bit of Symposium on the stereo and I’m yours baby!”
So speak ahead. This is Map to the Freezer by Stagecoach from the forthcoming EP, released on Alcopop on July 19th. Crash my Ride baby!
Elephants unofficial Ivory Coast anthem download – for free!
In tribute to Didier Drogba’s soldiers – our good ol’ football loving lads Elephants have penned what is a magnificent anthem to tournament heroes – ‘(Ivory) Coast to Victory’ by Elephants, and being the gentlemen they are – they’ve decided to give it to you for free.
Inspired by Dindane, Gervinho and of course Sven, the boys have penned this footballing song, and in light of England’s rather lacklustre performances – we thought the nation should be picking someone else to get behind should the unthinkable happen. And we’re nailing Green, white and Orange firmly to the Alcopop mast!
So have yourself a click on this link – and you can download the track for free, and do let your pals know. It’s going to be available free for as long as Cote d Ivorie continue to grace this majestic tournament – so get in there quick! Or can you take a look at my quickly hacked together compilation video below – and dream of Eboue!
Preview some new Screaming Maldini…
Screaming Maldini are like buses, always coming in threes (this post sounds like it’s about to get rude, but I promise it isn’t)… And it’s way good news for all concerned as yesterday, today and tomorrow the good boys and girls of Sheffield’s finest prog pop act are releasing fresh new summer hits – at 11pm on the dot via their facebook page. Awesome!
And what do you have to do for these fresh-picked hits, plucked from the most melodic fruit-bush in the orchard. Nothing/ nada/ nil… Yup, just head over to the facebook page and have yourself a listen. Brilliant!
THE Jimmy Greaves loves a bit of Alcopop
Or something like that… i had the great pleasure of meeting England’s third highest scorer of all time – and he was lovely enough to record this (hilariously cheeky) trail for the good ship Alcopop. Watch, love and realise how ace he is – then do as he says!
Hello new signing… Meet the Attika State!
It’s been a long time coming and not exactly secret (anyone who’s been to an Alcopop show of late will no doubt have seen these boys on the bill), but today it feels swell to announce that – Alcopop are signing The Attika State!
A super strong five piece musical concoction whose origins span oceans, TAS hail from Sicily, Malta, Sri Lanka and Wisbech. Influenced by everything to do with melody, the band strives to convince the minds of cynics to once again appreciate the beauty of forward thinking melodic rock and roll… Oh yeah!
Spending the majority of 2009 honing their sound and writing, they penned perfect pop punk album Measures with mighty Dave Eringa (Manics, Idlewild, The Xcerts, Stars and Sons) – and now it’s (almost) ready for your ears. The record will be out in October, and before then we’ve got a majestic ‘T-Shirt single’ in July, a summer mini tour and plenty more dates to come.
In fact, you can read an interview with them over on the BSM blog now, although all you really need to know is that they like jagerbombs – in quite some quantity!
So go and have a listen over here, and see what you think… You’ll be seeing a lot more of these boys in the next few months alright! Go check em out here, and take a listen to The Horton Shuffle (streamed straight from the new album) here…
Some words of wisdom about Alcopopular 4: ‘A Feast of Pop’
Ah it’s always lovely to get a nice bit of feedback from handsome heroes – and the compilation seems to be getting some good stuff from my very favourite folk. People have been enjoying picking their preferred tracks from the menu (Kev Devine, Freelance Whales and Stagecoach very popular so far) and the All You Can Eat selection is going down pretty rad too. Yup.
But enough of me – I’m bound to like it right. What’s way more important is folk at the likes of This is Fake DIY “spent a good few minutes gawping at the amazingness of the idea” – whilst Soundblab rate the beast 8/10 and suggest “Alcopop have set the bar in compilation mixes offering something truly unique and fresh for the listener.” Awww – thanks a lot chaps!
Alter the Press meanwhile really dig it – a 4/5/5 review and totally catching the raison d etre as it were… “Alcopop have managed to get a huge range of quality artists, ranging from rising, reasonably unknown talent to bigger tracks that many fans will recognise. The styles vary throughout, so it provides for some enjoyable listening. This compilation is sure to make you want to discover more from each and every one of these artists.”
Thanks all – You can get more info here…
<3 Screaming Maldini – Secret Sounds video
Oh and it really kills! You must watch this – prrrretty much immediately. Straight from the magnificent ‘Kookaburra Sings’ EP, released strongly on Alcopop a while back. Aren’t Maldini hot!
A week’s a long time in popotics…
Jesus its been busy of late! And with two releases (hard work releases at that – but they do look so lovely), the Alcopop Hometown Heroes tour, an Old Blue Last showcase, the BSM 5-a-side tournament AND the NBA Jam Off at Pure Groove tomorrow… I’m surprised I’m still standing. But standing I am – and thanks so much for everyone’s support of late buying releases, sending nice emails and tweets and coming to shows et al.
It’s so nice that people are digging what we’re doing – you simply own!
This is basically just a quick one to report a few of the shenanigans that took place over the weekend (leaving out, of course, the bit where I fell asleep on a Northampton pavement) but elucidating on an incredible team performance in the 5 a side football (we beat Front Magazine 7-0, yup) and incredible Hometown Heroes performances.
It was delicious having almost the whole roster hang out in an obscure beer garden in Northampton, and amongst George Elephant’s role as Alcopop manager (including full, sweltering suit in the hot, hot sun), Luka Coach’s frankly hilarious impression of John Coach’s footballing abilities, and the insistence of a garage man to sell My First Tooth condoms when all they really wanted was Amber Leaf (I guess they are a hot band) – much fun was had. “I might go and have a posh wank” was G-Unit’s measured take on the situation…
The bands meanwhile were awesome, a proper stage invasion at the end of the Stagecoach Dorking set saw various Maldinites, Gammers, Owen and I finishing the set as the Coach back up band, and street/pub garden/outside toilet karaoke sessions of classic Saves The Day songs became the norm. We’ll probably be doing it again soon enough; maybe hitting up some proper party cities this time (no offence Dorking).
Anyway – here’s a photo that’s pretty rad… Albeit Jo MFT has a pint for a head, and Luka Coach is probably smoking. See you soon y’all:
