It’s DOUBLE RELEASE Monday
So it’s a double release day for Alcopop! One sad Monday, but two awesome releases from some seriously awesome roster folk. First up we’ve got The Social Club – melody infused punk power from those ex Captain Everything/ Fireapple Red champs – and, fresh from their days in Reuben and Hundred Reasons (and an Irish tour with Fighting With Wire – Freeze the Atlantic! So, in no particular order (we were going to order in handsomeness, but we can’t do that can we..?)
Another few months on and another few months stronger, everyone’s favourite ex-Captain Everythingers, Fireapple Reddians and Wartgore Hellsnickers are back after tours with The Attika State and Saves the Day! This time with even bigger hits, and full page features in Rock Sound and Kerrang… Bastions of taste right? Well you better buy this then. Yeah i’ve written the same on the shop page, but those words were carefully crafted. Sounding somewhere between aforementioned STD and 90s heros of mine Snug, fuck expnsive holidays if you want a perfect summer. This IS the tonic, see….
And if THAT Hundred Reasons text made you moist – well this is gonna make you WET! A triumphant return to form from Freeze the Atlantic, the epic rock smashers who have taken 1 part Reuben, 1 part Hundred Reasons and 3 parts pure balls out rock and roll… All mixed together to create something massive.. We’re all awaiting news on the album, but this will satiate for now. Proper awesome….
New Freeze the Atlantic single up for presale!
Oh those lovely lads. 1 part Reuben, 1 part Hundred Reasons, and 3 parts other insanely talented rock and roll moguls – Freeze the Atlantic are back, and to use a Liverpoolism – ‘bosser than ever’. It’s been a while coming since the last EP dropped almost a year ago, but with the odd line up change, and much work being done on the album – one can forgive them. So with a tour of Ireland with those strong lads in Fighting with Wire on the cards, we thought we better drop an enhanced CD single (2 tracks and 1 video) of new song Volcanoes.
Oh and by gum it’s good… You know what to expect when you take a look at the FTA heritage, and you get it in spades. Don’t get me wrong, this is no Reuben meets Hundred Reasons derivitive but it is a huge rock anthem. Don’t believe me? I’m offended, but have yourself a look at the video beneath you…
And then, should you feel the need, we’ve got the lovely digipack singles up for sale for just £2.50 in the shop. All limited to just 250 copies, the first 50 come fully signed by the band… Be reasonably quick though.
Alcopop Christmas Party! Next Thursday….
Do say you’ll come – it’s going to be a lovely time. Just check out the line up and know you’re going to have a suuuuper time (At the Siver! There are Alcopop! Santa Hats for the first 10 people in, a glass of mulled wine for everyone on arrival – and all for £4. Tickets are available from wegottickets.com or the PoP Shop, and the line up looks a little something like this: ps – My First Tooth are also playing an exclusive busking set that you’ve never seen before, and may never see again. Oh yeah!!!
It’s all happening at The Silver Bullet, which is right next to Finsbury Park tube station – and a cracking venue to boot… Do say you’re in! Oh, and here’s the facebook event should you like that kind of thing.
Great Escape photo diaries and fun, fun, fun!
Hmmm – so it seems I haven’t even mentioned The Great Escape on this blog yet – which is fairly dumb, as as far as strong moments in Alcopop history go, this one was a fair old cracker to be true! Presumably most of you saw the line up which we were punting all about in the run up to it, and together with the lovely kids at DIY Records – we truly had a rather funtime Alcopop showcase at the Pav Tav. It all started non-official, but by the time the thing came round, we’d been ratcheted onto the bill – with all acts spread liberally across the programme – much to our delight.
From a personal point of view the whole thing was rad. We were 1 in, 1 out from 4.30pm, and by the time midnight was approaching, bouncers became crowd barriers – as various hip kids flung themselves at Stagecoach and The Xcerts – ripping down chandeliers from the ceiling and variously being thrown out, shouted at, sneaking back in and so it went on…. Basically – Team Pop rocked it!
The venue was decimated, we were dancing on floors of shattered pint glasses but noone cared- the likes of Jumping Ships, LightGuides, The Xcerts, Freeze The Atlantic, My First Tooth, Dad Rocks, Stagecoach, The Social Club, Ute and We are the Physics were ripping shit up! Drowned in Sound were pretty damn complimentary, efestivals had a cracker and the 405 simply deemed in glorious. Thanks The 405!
So basically – thanks for coming down, and eternal love to you all for (in the words of Ben Folds) rocking that bitch! Next show kicking will be Alcopopalooza on 9th July at the Windmill, and hopefully that will be just as fun!
Johnny Foreigner and Freeze the Atlantic FTW!
So frisbees have been flying out… Strong times in the PoP camp, and they seem to be going down well. As JoFo are busy ploughing a mean furrow up and down the country we’re popping about despatching Freeze the Atlantic ‘Colour by Numbers’ EPs (complete with crayons), and JoFo discs galore.
Meanwhile, delegation PoP went along to Guildford on Sunday for the aforementioned FTA launch and man it was awesome, as well as nicely packed and sweaty – did you get the free track by the way. Just tweet and it’s yours! (someone on the PoP facebook group said it was ‘hench‘ – pretty sure that’s good). Rocking hard with the support of Scholars there were plenty of friends in attendance (as well as Larry ex Hundred Reasons). Dusting ourselves down we then popped to the Barfly to see My First Tooth support The Xcerts. Amazing times.
Incidentally, have you heard the new JoFo record yet… Oh my! Check this out, and visit them on tour!

Freeze The Atlantic – Waking Up EP
Oh man, this has been a LONG time coming, and by god it’s worth the wait. Personal revered heroes of mine from Reuben and Hundred Reasons have come together with other talented champs, smashed a whole load of finger-dented genius through their instruments and *BANG* – Freeze the Atlantic are born. This EP is glorious, 3 tracks of melodic balls out rock-pop genius – and all complete in its own Colour by Numbers sleeve, complete with wax crayons to literally colour it in by numbers! Stay in the lines though yeah…
My First Tooth – Sleet and Snow EP
A band who epitomise all things Alcopop! They’re our longest-serving, and it’s no surprise – because from the moment I heard Ross’s melodic vocals harmonising over a medley of folk-pop genius and met these tender champs from Northampton, I fell head-over-heels in love. My First Tooth are put simply, wonderful! This, their last single from debut LP Territories is a tour de force… And available to you for free. Seriously, no cost and all physical product. We just need this in your lives!
Johnny Foreigner – Are Cursed Frisbee EP
I’ve been wanting to do this for sometime now, a straw poll on Twitter showed me that Frisbees were way cooler than beach balls, so we’re getting all fun again with JoFo… Birmingham’s absolute finest (fuck yes!) These jet black Frisbees are white printed with ghostie print, 4 Trk CD is attached underneath – and imagine how cool you’ll look on the beach! Remember those bullies you still simmer resentment against cos they kicked over your sandcastle when you were a kid? Well you > them!
All available in the shop now, with a cheeky little deal on all 3 if you should be so inclined. See you in the shop yo? xxx
Freeze the Atlantic Waking Up Video
Won’t you take a little gander at what’s just dropped! How awesome is this this… Freeze the Atlantic kicking out the jams, with the EP coming in slightly less than a month! Eek, we’re all sorts of excited. For starters, see below -
Alcopop New Signing Announced!
As a man who can, without a flicker of a lie, say he has once spent an entire journey from Oxford to Gretna and back listening solely to Ideas Above our Station by Hundred Reasons – and who was so excited by Christmas is Awesome by Reuben that I virtually broke my stereo repeating it…. It’s pretty ace times to announce our latest signing, FREEZE THE ATLANTIC!
Made up of 2/3 Reuben (Jon and Guy), 1/5 Hundred Reasons (Andy) and 2 other handsome gents (Chris and Tom) – they’re not only named after a Cable song (which is noteworthy in itself) … But sounding absolutely awesome, blending in elements of their illustrious indie-rock past – but still sounding every inch something ‘proper’ fresh’.
It’s been a long journey from our first meeting to actually getting these details out, mainly because pretty much ever meeting has ended up being essentially a chat about Vinnie Jones and his film career (did you know he’d been in 53 Flicks – Jon FTA literally couldn’t believe it)…. But we’re there now, and if you’ve got a few minutes away from the daily grind – you should probably go have a listen to them at this ol’ website here.
The ‘Colour by numbers’ EP will be released 18th April 2011 and to coincide with this, the band will embark on a UK tour and aiming past the planets from there.
Welcome to Alcopop Freeze the Atlantic!
