NEW STAGECOACH single and RECORD STORE DAY RELEASE

#likewoah – It’s about time right, but the news is good and our swell brothers in Stagecoach return to Alcopop! Records to release ’56k Dial-Up’ – the first taste of new material from the band’s debut album due later this year. Produced by Dom James (who slammed out that freakin’ awesome Vs Everything by Johnny Foreigner), it is backed with a remix of old favourite ‘Hang That Head’ by Bobby Shoop Shoop…

It’s a one-off single (I said we weren’t gonna do any singles in 2012. That’s two and counting, but when they’re as good as this – what can you do), it’s limited to just 100 copies on jelly green, hand-numbered cassette and will be available April 21st at a selection of Coach’s favourite stores – Banquet, Truck (Oxford) and Rise Records (as well as the PoP shop OBVS!).

The band are still mid recording with a debut album coming soon (very excited about this), so this should be a tasty taster as it were! I will also be encouraging lovely bassist John to be recording a spoken word missive on cats as a secret track on each tape – but I haven’t asked him yet…. Watch this space ;-)

Oh and you can catch them here too at these ipcoming Shows:

May 9 – The Garage, London w/ Tellison
May 11 – The Great Escape, Brighton w/ Johnny Foreigner and Tall Ships

Here’s a picture of them looking all moody and writey. In reality Luke and Matt are just in deep discussion about Clint Dempsey’s recent form…

Two shows tonight! Your choice…

So you can either head on down to Northampton Town should you be in the area, and delight in some of the finest poppy punk-tinged awesomeness to drop this side of the Atlantic since ever. The Attika State and The Social Club yeh? You got it brother, and they’re at our favourite venue like ever… The Labour Club. And assorted  Teeth will be there. Rad. Capiche?

Or London based, and weeping cos N’Town is a touch too far away… fear not – just come along to this bad boy!

Malco, Emery and Mallia release threEPeople – YEAH!

We’re not trying to get you to spend ALLLLLL your money. Honest! But the gods of late August/early September have let it be known that they prefer a primarily Alcopop diet – and a damn fizzy one at that. See, not only are we mere days away from announcing another Johnny foreigner release (srsly im lrning lex spk too) – but we have perhaps one of our lovliest offerings in some time… Out today!

To sum up the story behind it (in a nutshell), our lovely new lady Katie Malco was keen to get out and see the sites during a summer tour of gardens, small festivals and such – so we hooked her up with two of our most beautiful boys in Warren Attika State and Matt Emery Stagecoach – booked a few shows and sent them packing. So far they’ve met ferrets in Capel, battled football hooligans with melody in Kingston – even partying in Bristol with spaghetti a-plenty.

To celebrate such endeavours, all 3 of them got together, recorded some lovely lo-fi songs with the help of Warren’s cat (seriously, you can hear her on the end of Warren’s Frank Turner esque belter 6 shots) – commited them to CD and digital locations – whilst all 3 artists and I (with Lady PoP) hand painted 25 sleeves each for putting them in. All individual, you’ve got owls, flags, kittens and even a picture of Warren looking very much like a sugarpuff monster. Voila! The threEPeople (clever name huh, yeah.. Thanks Elliott Morris)

You don’t know what you’re going to get – but you do know it’ll be bloody lovely! Available now from the PoP Shop for just 3 sheets, you can’t lose… You really can’t! Special Matt Emery related prize to anyone who snares the owl cover art (below).

Going once…

Jack has gone swanning off to South Africa for 10 days so mousey Kev is left to play.

Through my day job at Big Scary Monsters we run an annual 5-a-side football tournament, which took place this past Saturday (Alcopop did so-so. A leaky defence very nearly cost them. BSM had the 2nd best in the tournament. Just sayin’). We used the event to raise money for charity and by the end of the weekend were already over the £1000 mark, which is just incredible. Yesterday the second phase of this began with a series of 9 online auctions going live. Items so kindly donated by a number of the teams who took part in the tournament include huge bundles of records from XL (12″s from Radiohead, Prodigy, MIA, Adele), Wichita (Loads of CDs, t-shirts and more from Los Camp, Bloc Party, Gold Panda, SMD), Hassle (Trash Talk, Alkaline Trio and Fun CDs, vinyl and shirts), Holy Roar (Brontide, Young Legionnaire and Gallops bits), Banquet (Frank Turner test pressing and lots more stuff), BSM (a record player plus sold out vinyl from Andrew WK, Pulled Apart By Horses and loads more), Stagecoach (a bloody mandolin!) and The Xcerts (some sweaty shirts and a signed 12″).

My favourite auction of all though (and one I never thought I’d be able to persuade him to do), is the one from Alcopop. “Win a night out with Jack Alcopop”.

As regular readers of this blog you may have noticed Mr Pop enjoys “the odd tipple” (ahem). A man with arguably more alcohol than blood in his body, there’s a reason I named him Saturday Night Jack when we first moved in together and began this lovely little label. Now you can witness this tour de force of booze, winning yourself a night in his company (he’ll travel to you – so let’s make it nice and far away, yeah?) where’ll be provide one of his signature Reverse Jagerbombs – I’m afraid that is indeed dropping a shot of Red Bull into a glass of Jager – as well as a big bag of Alcopop records. I make no promises of vomit, his hair coming down on the dancefloor or sleeping on the streets, but I would say that chances of the three happening are highly likely.

Bid on it here. The current price, at time of going to “print”, is just £41, which is an absolute snip and all for a good cause, remember.

Great Escape photo diaries and fun, fun, fun!

Hmmm – so it seems I haven’t even mentioned The Great Escape on this blog yet – which is fairly dumb, as as far as strong moments in Alcopop history go, this one was a fair old cracker to be true! Presumably most of you saw the line up which we were punting all about in the run up to it, and together with the lovely kids at DIY Records – we truly had a rather funtime Alcopop showcase at the Pav Tav. It all started non-official, but by the time the thing came round, we’d been ratcheted onto the bill – with all acts spread liberally across the programme – much to our delight.

From a personal point of view the whole thing was rad. We were 1 in, 1 out from 4.30pm, and by the time midnight was approaching, bouncers became crowd barriers – as various hip kids flung themselves at Stagecoach and The Xcerts – ripping down chandeliers from the ceiling and variously being thrown out, shouted at, sneaking back in and so it went on…. Basically – Team Pop rocked it!

The venue was decimated, we were dancing on floors of shattered pint glasses but noone cared- the likes of Jumping Ships, LightGuides, The Xcerts, Freeze The Atlantic, My First Tooth, Dad Rocks, Stagecoach, The Social Club, Ute and We are the Physics were ripping shit up! Drowned in Sound were pretty damn complimentary, efestivals had a cracker and the 405 simply deemed in glorious. Thanks The 405!

You must check out this too. How much fun! A photo diary of a selection of Team PoP at TGE, which includes nudity, mini golf and the most magnificent toaster we’ve ever seen.

So basically – thanks for coming down, and eternal love to you all for (in the words of Ben Folds) rocking that bitch! Next show kicking will be Alcopopalooza on 9th July at the Windmill, and hopefully that will be just as fun!

2,500 followers on Twitter = Gifts for all :-)

Oh my! Just realised last night we were a mere 7 shy of 2,500 followers on Twitter… And so, with the magic of the night time and a few new followers (including the awesome @jackhayter – ex violinist of Hefner and current solo star on Audioantihero Records)… we’ve only bloody gone and got there!

Seems reason enough for a celebration to me – so being a penniless indie who don’t have the resources to print 2,500 gaudy tees proclaiming you’re in the pop gang, we’ve instead procured an exclusive track from Stagecoach (Giles remix by Rob Lintott that sounds like a spicy lemon jelly!!!) and got a rather tasty 15% discount voucher for you for the PoP Shop from this link here - just in case you fancy a flutter on any of our fine goods over the next couple of weeks. Plus the first 5 orders we receive today will all snare themselves a 4 track Candle Thieves Sunshine Song promo.. Just for fun you know :-)

But the main thing today – is just to thank you all for being involved. We really appreciate your support, love and continuous kindness towards the label.. Rockin

Pulled apart by Matt Emery!

You know PoP favourites Stagecoach right? Well if you don’t get yourself into this shop and make good that mistake right away :D … If you do, you’ll no doubt be aware of delicious little Matty Emery – a charming gent from Dorking who not only hits things, but sings like an angel and plays the guitar/piano like an angel as well. Well – see, he’s been all sorts of busy of late and has put out this rad Pulled Apart by Horses cover album – where he’s covered some of their biggest hits, and looks like Andrew WK on the front cover.

That works for me – and you can download it for free here… Nice eh?

He’ll make you dance with his balls of fire!

Stagecoach Huw Stephens Radio 1 session…

We’ve always loved Huw Stephens here at Alcopop. Maybe it’s his edgily beautiful face, genuine passin for the music or the fact that he seems to hold us in some high regard (that and he’s a genuinely lovely guy) – but he really did exceed himself last Wednesday when bustin out some serious Stagecoach in session larks! Camping in at Chop’s (Mandolin) extravagent Londonshire pad armed only with chicken and the odd booze or two we got going with some strong Radio 1 action.

Ah it was awesome! And true to form, Coach boshed out some cracking tracks – and got all of that raucous rock down baby! Giles, Tazers, Ice Age and ouch! A brand new one called Tony Hawk…

Listening is believing yes - so follow the link for TIMES. Chapter 2 is the bit all about our lovely Dorking darlings, or listen to the whole show for a 2 hour treat.

Thanks Huw, you’re the best…
