Arrows of Love release free download EP gift for poppers

l_d25cfcf7b0cb47709ba0438b6260ea4bFormer Alcopop favourites and darlings of the press, Hush the Many were a cracking bunch. Committing a magnificent single, Revolve, to vinyl and releasing it with us – they tore open hearts across the country, were splashed across almost every magazine and website worth reading, and remain good chums to this day.

Hush the Many have sadly now long expired, but charismatic frontman Nima is rarely static, and has recently formed a new musical collective called Arrows of Love – who delight in tumultuous brash sound with echoes of the capital edging their sound in brooding punky overtones.

Their first gig, where they were supported by Ed Harcourt, pretty much sold out The Scala – and they’ve recently finished off a rather spectacular digital EP which comes out on 20th July. However, because they’re pretty lovely – and Nima knows what good taste you have – they want to give the EP as a downloadable gift to you all.

So have a listen over here, download and if you like – pass it onto your friends. Cheers Arrows!

Hush the Many (Heed the Few) pen a new chapter…

Some bands die, others evolve – and that’s exactly what is currently happening to Alcopop favourites Hush the Many (Heed the Few), who released single ‘Revolve’ with us a few months back.  “Blend[ing] aggression and beauty in unique fashion, hitting like a bolt of lightning across a barren landscape” said the Daily Mirror – and by gum they were right…

But now, a sensational tour, unbelievable amounts of cracking press and much general adulation later – it seems that the next chapter is upon Nima – and like a book you can’t put down, I’m pretty much salivating at what it may contain… For Hush the Many (Heed the Few), now sans Alex sadly, has nonetheless happily morphed, evolved, and become Arrows of Love.

Apparently, “some songs you will recognise, some half-recognise, and some will be new – and in a bold move that will no doubt intensify this bands cult status, they aim to “remain outside the realms of myspace, facebook, keeping a creative focus, and our music only live for the moment.”

The lineup is pretty exceptional too, featuring…

Nima (Hush the Many’s lynchpin, creative force and all round hero) – vocals & guitar
Luis (from Eraserheads & Jamie T) – electric guitar
Clayton (from Kid Harpoon) – bass
Wim (from Loverman & Eraserheads) – drums
Sarah – synths, piano & vocals
Kate – cello

We’ll keep you updated with what’s happening – and can only heartily recommend going to see them at The Scala on the 14th October. We’ll be there… Meanwhile, if you want to snap up a piece of where it all started, get yourself to the shop and you can pick up revolve for just £3. It’s limited to only 500 copies, and there aren’t many left – and it’s one of the most gorgeous songs of the year… Check it out here. Oh, and look at this nice ‘arrow of love’ photo too – courtesy of drp on Flickr…

Badger bristles at the thought of Hush the Many (Heed the Few)

It’s been a great day, of which my most momentus achievment was to take some clothes to the laundrette, dry them and come back again. Ahh, the life of an indie label record exec… Never short of controversy. Therefore, in light of the first 12 hour period spent doing sweet FA since I pretended to shiver, was pronounced ‘ill’ and sent home from a particularly tedious maths lesson aged 12, I shall celebrate by basking in the glory of someone elses work. That someone… Bristling Badger, who has painstakingly created a list of 7 ace songs he’s into at the moment.

Good idea – and if I understand rightly, something that, if he tags you, you have to do as well… I’m not entirely sure. But anyway… His number 3 in his list is none other than Alcopop’s very own Hush the Many (Heed the Few), with their 7″ single released just a couple of months back – Revolve.

For see what he says… Cheers badger!

Hush the Many loved by Steve Lamacq on BBC Radio 2

Steve Lamacq knows his stuff, as a quick type of his name in this very search bar will tell you – and it seems that he has excelled himself once again; by picking Alcopop’s very own Hush the Many (Heed the Few) as the featured artist on his BBC2 show.

Not just an interview that will furnish all those questions you ever had about Hush the Many (such as where did you meet, what’s Revolve about etc, why was Alex a little disappointed with the video etc.) – but then you can hear Revolve and realise it’s pretty much one of the best tracks of the year – capiche?

So pop over to the BBC iPlayer to listen again to the interview (originally broadcast on Wednesday) – it’s about 36 minutes through the show if you’re in a hurry, but the whole tracklisting is pretty nifty so you may be well advised to listen to the whole lot!

Keep an eye on MTV2 for Hush the Many (Heed the Few)

As an exciting video, by the name of Revolve by our good pals Hush the Many will be being aired over this weekend on MTV2, and throughout the following week…

It is seriously wonderful – and was put together by a team of the nation’s most talented animators, all throwing their own focussed, yet creatively individual ideas into the song, creating sub-sections of classically animated genius.

You can watch it here, but believe me that it looks so much better on a big TV when the fuzziness of YouTube is abandoned, and the crisp images merge with the atmospheric song – creating a breathtaking experience.

Look look – and if you see it on MTV2 – holler in joy, turn up the volume, and enjoy…

Have an ace weekend!

Got a minute to spare? Help Hush the Many!

I alluded to it in a previous blogpost, but things are really hotting up with Alcopop’s next release – Revolve by Hush the Many (Heed the Few) – and the boys and girls in London’s “power-goth love (NME)” new band are asking for your help. Whether you’re well into the band, and fancy giving a right push, or just wouldn’t mind popping an email to your favourite DJ – we’d really appreciate your help too. There are plenty of incentives too, with posters, gig tickets, rare live MP3s and various other goodies going to be sent out to folk at the end of it all. So do let us, or them, know if you do anything!

Anyway – without further ado, here is the list of things posted up on Hush the Many’s Facebook Group… And if you could help, they will “tip hats to you gratefully” – and give you things – what more could you want? :-D

1. Requesting ‘Revolve’ from your favourite dj’s and these guys:
colin.murray@bbc.co.uk , huw.stephens@bbc.co.uk , john.kennedy@xfm.co.uk , dermot@bbc.co.uk, lamacq.6music@bbc.co.uk , stuart.6music@bbc.co.uk , marc.6music@bbc.co.uk , stephen.6music@bbc.co.uk , nemone.6music@bbc.co.uk , introducing.6music@bbc.co.uk

2. Printing out this poster/flyer and sticking it around at your college / work / recordshop or just giving to nice people:
http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x50/hushthemany/Revolve-PosterWhite-LoInk.jpg

3. Er…telling anyone you think would like the song!

If you use forums or mailouts here’s a web flyer too:
http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x50/hushthemany/Revolve-WebPosterBlack.gif

4. Email us at hushthemany@gmail.com for some myspace codes to put things like the video out as bulletins or comments to your friends on April 28th itself.

Oh – and you can preorder the vinyl here (out on 28th April) or purchase Revolve and B-Side Story End on iTunes right now, if online stuff is more your bag…

Cheers x

Free Mp3, Albums on trees, bribes galore and West Coutry actors

Sorry about the lack of blog updates this week Alcopoppers – have been away for most of it, and with a fair bit in the pipeline, most of my time has been taken up with mailorders, gigs and the like (woe is me eh ;-) ). Oh – and seeing the Lord of the Rings play, which was incredibly slick, and pretty good fun – but starring a Frodo Baggins who sounded more like a farm hand from the Archers than Elijah Wood… Still, had it not been for Peter Jackson, I would have assumed that all Hobbits sounded like hey had been brought up West Country way – so it’s probably his fault.

Either way, a bit of Family Machine related news for anyone living in the Oxfordshire area or beyond – that not only are the boys treating some fortuitous types to the fruit of their musical loins by hanging up albums around the county on lucky trees, but also playing a free in-store show at Chalkys Records in Banbury on April 17th.

Also – with the new release date of Hush the Many (Heed the Few)’s wonderful single Revolve fast approaching (come on the 28th April!), Nima has requested your help in spreading the word if you’re so inclined. All his ideas are up on this MySpace blogpost over here, and if anyone wouldn’t mind popping in a request for airplay from their favourite Radio DJ, posting up the flyer online or in person – or dropping a bulleting whatever about it – we would be most grateful… What’s more, bribes ARE on offer… Your help will not go unrewarded.

Also – newest stallion’s to pop their snouts inside the Alcopop stable, Cut the Blue Wire, have a free track up on their MySpace page to download free – which is kind of them. It’s called ‘Silence of the Guns’, and it’s fuckin’ ace!

Much love x Jack POP

HTM rock Oxford, whilst Family Machine roll Stockport

Majestic, atmospheric and bloody ace! Just some of the words used to describe the epic Hush the Many (Heed the Few) gig in Oxford last night, and despite massive problems with the sound somewhat blighting the overall experience, the show was awesome. Nima had clearly had a few – his witty banter lovingly charming as ever -, but the power with which he belted out the sometimes rocking’, sometimes heart-rendingly beautiful ballads left all in attendance truly moved.

Single B-side ‘Story End’ especially proved an especially beautiful moment of the set, with the song shoehorned into the set at the request of HTM’s guitarist – mixed girl/boy vocals from aforementioned Nima, and bass player Alex tender and exposed beautifully. I guess I would say this – but you really should make an effort to see this band live. Truly phenomenal, and they handed out champagne… What more do you want? Oh, and the rather awesome photos below were taken by Marc West. Cheers mate.

Meanwhile, recent Alcopop releases Family Machine have taken their own brand of superb, atmospheric pop – and well impressed up in’t North our lad! Pure FM in Stockport are making ‘You Are the Family Machine’ their featured album tonight, and the show can be caught between 8-10pm tonight at www.pureradio.org.uk. Listen! You must!

HTM(HTF) release date delayed

Originally penciled in for release today, various issues have led us to move the release of the Hush the Many (Heed the Few) Revolve 7” back a few weeks to the 28th April. The initial pressing of the record will be limited to just 500 copies, and can be pre-ordered from the Alcopop shop right now for just £3. Well, £3.50p if you include postage costs – but bear in mind that that single 50p cost will be the same whether you order just 1 vinyl, or 3 x 3” CDs, 2 records and a full size CD too (so, just to clarify – p&p will cost no more than 50p, however much you order.)

Phew – and now the official announcement has been made, may I proffer a big thumbs down, not only to Comply or Die who beat my Grand National tip into a well-ridden 3rd (it was winning at fence 28 – gah) but also the Oxford Academy who chucked me out of their club at the weekend for climbing a ladder and dancing on it. There were no signs, no warnings – and I was miffed to say the least to be physically chucked out of the building being told “not to struggle” when struggling was the last thing on my mind, and I was (to coin a phrase) coming quietly *sniggers*. Then they wouldn’t let me get my coat back – mean bastards…

However – Oxford offers promises of a far better night tonight, as aforementioned Hush the Many are playing the Purple Turtle with local favourites Cat Matador. It will be a stunning show, and should be attended at all costs! Hopefully see you there!

Hush the Many (Heed the Few) review in NME

Another Tuesday, and another great review for Hush the Many (Heed the Few) – and this time it’s the NME rising unsteadily from the Alcopop bed – all cheeks flushed red, utterly spent and clutching a bottle of something that may, in a few years time, seriously rot teeth. Of course (much like this post) it takes them a while to get to the point, even thought the whole review is less than 100 words long (they’re nattering on about lemurs or something) – but do feast your eyes on the entire happy summary below…

And pre-order the very limited (to 500) 7” single here
