ZOMFG!! Why would you be anywhere else? Alcopopalooza this Saturday
There aint no party like an A PoP party. This much is true. So if Latitude is too far away, Guilfest aint your thing and you reckon that sitting inside whilst the sun shines is for nerds. Baby – I need say just one word. Alcopopalooza!
Brixton Windmill this Saturday is therefore very much the place to be for delicious action then – with 13 bands to entertain you inside and outside all day, a free BBQ to tempt even the choosiest of tastebuds – we’ll also be celebrating the launch of the Stagecoach Crash My Ride EP (19th), and Attika State’s Celebration T-Shirt single (26th)
Oh – and Jack PoP and Kev BSM’s birthday too (Jack will be 23, and Kev 34 (presents are optional
).
Tickets remarkably are just six (count em) pounds in advance, and given that you’ll be seeing the likes of Stagecoach, Tall Ships, The Attika State, Screaming Maldini, Tangled Hair, Stairs to Korea and many more – well the value’s there to see.
You can get full deets over at the facebook group, book slightly cheaper tickets in advance at where else but wegottickets – or sod the internet and just rock up on Saturday for SO much ace music, free meat and booze until you drop. Winner! The 405 agree see, rating it gig of the week. Good shout boys!
Alcopopping Xmas party @The Social, W1: Tellison, Stagecoach, My First Tooth and Aspen Sails!
MONDAY 14th DECEMBER in London town!!!
Christmas time again – what joy! So we thought that it was probably our duty to throw a nice festive bash in London town – and make it as damn sweaty as we can! So we invited 4 of the finest bands this good nation has to offer, grabbed a piece of intimate venue (The Social, W1) and prepared some pretty tasty goodie bags for the first 20 people through the door.
Expect snow, Christmas decorations and general loveliness too – as well as a lush 7 track Alcopop sampler free for every person who comes through the door. Where else do you get all this for a fiver?
(Father) Tellison – need no introduction! And this is their only London show of what remains of 2009…. Indie pop deliciousness from utter legends!
(Rudolph the red nosed) Stagecoach – Seminal popstars from deep within the Surrey hills, and even deeper in the Alcopop heart. Imagine Americana pop lavished in melody, harmony and rock n roll sensibilities.
(We wish you a merry) My First Tooth – Prettier than a whole barrel of peaches and dearest siblings of Team PoP, My First Tooth will treat your heart to its biggest workout since Bambi. Folk-kissed indie pop you will literally die for.
(Frosty the) Aspen Sails – Newest kids on the block, Aspen Sails are a lush duo who pedal lovingly crafted folk pop, ideally enjoyed with a sherry or two.
Plus Alcopop DJs will be battling excellent online music boys The 405… Expect bombs dropped from all sides!
Would be delicious to see you… You can pre-order tickets (that will be a smidgen cheaper than on the door) here! It’s gonna be a cracker! Tellison have rocked up already see!
And talking of Tee Shirts…. Only one Alcocroc left!
Thanks Kev for that lovely thought – I’ll would have looked magnificent in that – about as lovely as I did last night, when asked to sing ‘So here it is, Merry Christmas’ by Slade alongside Alcopop favourites Pavilion on stage at the Christmas Party last night… You definitely won’t be seeing a video… Kev! No!
Oh, and so many thanks to everyone who turned out to see the majestic Sam Isaac, poptastic Stars & Sons, harmonious Pavilion and stratospheric Nima – we really appreciate it!
But back to the T-shirts, and to let you know that only one remains! That’s right – only one yellow on green Alcocroc will ever be sold from the Alcopop shop. It’s in medium, and that’s it! Available here for just £8….
Oh – and a rather magnificent picture of another popper in a tee shirt coming up in the next couple of days, as soon as I have a chance. Meanwhile, those nice folks at Kickers got in touch have invited me to offer some cocktails and throw some minutes at a CSS remix video tomorrow. Super stuff…

Alcopop staff Christmas Party – via Twitter!
What a tool Twitter is… For after a hazy night of fun at the Alcopop Staff Party, I must admit that between many pubs, clubs and a curry, my memories of the night were rather hazy.
So rather than have to sit writing a detailed post of exactly what happened, I’ve simply delved into the archives of last nights tweets – and detailed them here below. Bingo! An 11 part tale (all in 140 characters or less) detailing exactly what happened that fair and fateful eve.

NB…. The night, as I recall, was fairly clear of rain by the time we got there… Mist however, had descended in a BIG way!

When we got there, it wasn’t bad, but fairly expensive… We spotted many better deals later!

Cut the Blue Wire however proved to be brilliant hosts, and after playing a good set in difficult circumstances, rocked out like heros and kept us entertained with their excellent pals – including the masterful Lukecunt.

The Djing proved to be lacklustre for most of the rest of the night, with few highlights. We rocked hard anyway – champion…

Drunkeness continued recklessly!

Booze in an Emergency failed miserably – the lines were engaged all evening… After a run in from a cab driver who sent us away, led Kev to this angry tweet!

This is – to put it simply – a massive lie
Morning sprung with delight eternal, and the best cafe ever. It had arcade machines, African artefacts and breakfasts weren’t ‘alf bad…

So that should leave everything pretty clear then… ‘-) Good work on the cocktails Hamptons, and thank you Southampton (except for rogue cab drivers and Booze in an Emergency) – weak!
Alcopop CHRISTMAS PARTY – 15th December
Ah – Christmas time again, and time for a good-ol’ Alcopop knees up. It’s been a super year, and we’d love to see it off in style…

Stars and Sons
Pavilion
Nima (ex Hush the Many now w/ Arrows of Love performing a magnificent solo acoustic spot)
As you can see, we’ve picked just some of the finest acts from our current rosta to tantalise and delight you on a miserable Monday evening. Expect magnificent music, Christmas cakes, 90s dance/indie/Christmas DJs -
And, a loving Christmas present for the first 15 people through the door……
Tickets just a fiver – will cost more on the door!

Put it in your diary – 26th July! Alcopopalooza summer party/gig at the Brixton Windmill
Two stages, mega-boozing and around 8 hours of awesome live music, DJs and to herald the summer in true Alcopop style, this ones going to be big! Alcopop would like to cordially invite you to our big ol’ summer bash – ALCOPOPALOOZA – Just as good as its American namesake (ahem), and a whole shed-load cheaper to put together, just take a look at this magnificently rendered poster (featuring alcocroc), and buy tickets here for just £6!

Just in case you hate pictures, you’ll be pleased to know that it features 12 bands and solo artists – including The Xcerts, The Computers, This City, Secondsmile (with their first EVER acoustic set) Pavilion, Cut the Blue Wire, Attika State, Flash Flash Photography, Decades, House of Brothers, Russell Joslin and Sean Clothier. There’s a free BBQ as doors open at 4, and special guest DJs and Alcopop regulars playing an eclectic mix of retro pop, classic 90s indie, electro beats and modern anthems (not forgetting Kev’s ill-advised Nu-Metal hits machine).
Whatsmore, Alcopop will be taking part in the BSM 6-a-side tournament the next day, so anyone who fancies sticking around and watching one of the best footie tournaments to take place… EVER.. is more than welcome.
Here’s summer… almost… In gig form with CTBW + Blakfish!
Everyone loves a pre-summer party gig – not least when Cut the Blue Wire are playing it, and yours truly will be splashing some seriously summery tunes until I break the decks (a very distinct possibility) – but they don’t come around every day… Oh no, and that’s why I’m quite so excited about just such an occasion occurring next Monday at The Enterprise in Londaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan town and that guv!
Kicking off at 7, and just £5 to enter (that’s less than a round of 2 drinks I’ve just bought in a crap Oxfordshire café that likes to think it’s a pub) – you will be treated not only to Alcopop favourites CTBW, but also Capitals, Blakfish and Secondsmile. Oh, and good news for those who enjoy free things, and giveaways is that BSM Leprechaun/Santa/Pirate Ben will be dressed as a rasta and handing out presents and such.
The line-up is ace, the atmosphere will be spectacular and the company convivial… So buy tickets here, and then come – capiche? I’ve even heard it may be Cool Runnings themed… Which would be bloody ace!
BSM reaches 50 releases – and we celebrate by giving away free 50 track CDs
Like those moments in childhood, when you look up at your big brother who’s just picked you up and cuddled you after grazing your knee, or offered you the last scoop of ice cream – all at Alcopop are immensely proud and pleased that big brother label BSM has reached one hell of a milestone!
50 releases… Congratulations Kev! And thanks for the good ol’ Alcopop days too – its been a real pleasure working with you pal *sniffs*!
Anyway – rather than blog along sound like a sentimental old fool – I shall use the genial general of gentlemanly grooves (that’s Kev by the way) very own words… Oh, and if anyone wants a copy of this spectacular new release (and you do, because it’s got 50 tracks of greatness including stuff from Alcopop’s very own Hush the Many, 4 or 5 Magicians, DSP… alongside Get Cape, Rolo Tomassi, Tubelord and loads more… I’ve pinched a whole load of them out of his room (heh heh) and we’re going to give them away free with every single order until I run out! You heard it right… Any BSM or Alcopop order placed will see you coming away with a godamn 50 track free CD – (for slae on its own for £4) – so you can’t lose really!
Anyway – here is all the info you’ll need on the compilation – read and inwardly digest…
Big Scary Monsters is 50 releases old! No, we didn’t see it coming either. Over the past 7 years we’ve put out many many releases from more wonderful bands than I can count on an army of toes. There have been great moments and there have been even better moments, and so it seemed only fitting that we celebrate the half-century with something a little special.
50 Not Out is a compilation CD of 50 MP3s featuring past, present and future BSM associates, along with many of our favourite others. So that’s music from the likes of Get Cape Wear Cape Fly, Maps And Atlases, Tubelord, This Town Needs Guns, Jeniferever, Jonah Matranga, Rolo Tomassi, Secondsmile, Copy Haho, Sam Isaac, Tera Melos, Hush The Many, Data.Select.Party, Meet Me In St Louis and a lot more! The full tracklisting is right here and frankly, it’s amazing.
The CD is being given away for free with all purchases from this very website, or you can buy it for the princely sum of just £4. Click here to purchase.
But wait… There’s more! If you join up to our Friend of The Family mini-site you can pick the CD up for just £3 and also have access to 10 free MP3 downloads of tracks from the CD. Check it out.<
So that’s it. Fifty bloody releases! Thanks to everyone for playing a bigger part than you probably realise in helping us reach this milestone. Here’s to the next 50.
Nice one kev!!
A crock of gold and a pint of Irish charm to be sure!
What are you doing on St. Patricks day other than drinking masses of Guiness, trying desperately to obtain a novelty hat and falling over around 3am in a massive pool of vomit and wishing desperately that you’d taken the following day off, rather than proudly boasting “my great (insert great ad nauseum) grandad was Irish – I can take it”.
Well – Alcopop heartily condones all of the above, but also believes that you should be doing said drunkenness in London town at the Social, where a whole host of great bands (including Alcopop’s very own Data.Select.Party) will be jamming out modern day indie-pop classics, and Alcopop’s very own Jack will ripping apart the decks dropping Irish themed hits until the bitter end.
You want ‘Wild Rover’ on repeat, Dropkick Murphys, Ash, Turn, Simple Kid and B*Witched? Then get down – and please note there will be a ‘no Bono’ rule at all times. I thank you.
Click the handsome flyer to buy cheap advance tickets….
